Fun fact: Originally it was established in the 4th century as Shuris-tsikhe, or enviable stronghold. But when the Mongols invaded Georgia in 13th century, they renamed the fortress Narikala, or little fortress.

A visit to the Istanbul Archeology Museum is a must – fascinating artifacts dating back 5-6 thousand (!!) years ago, uncovered as recently as a few years ago when the city began construction of Marmaray rail link under the Bosphorous.
